BACP

My name is Carolyn Stafford Bell. I am a qualified and registered therapeutic counsellor in Oakham & Rutland, Leicestershire.

I offer a confidential* service in a purpose built room from my home in Oakham, Rutland. I offer face-to-face counselling, either short-term structured or long-term therapy, usually weekly sessions. I can offer daytime & evening appointments.

My approach to counselling is integrative, fundamentally built on the person-centred philosophy. My aim is to provide a safe environment where your thoughts and feelings are given the time and space to be voiced and heard.

How My service might help

Anxiety/Stress can cause irritability and reduce our ability to cope with the pressures of life. Trauma, Bereavement, relationship issues and family issues are all experiences very difficult and painful to deal with, and we can feel very alone. Perhaps there is someone to talk to, but they do not fully understand how YOU feel and the effect it may be having on you.

We all experience problems in our lives at some point, whether you may be going through a period of crisis, or perhaps you are hoping to change self-defeating patterns of thinking and behaviour, and when we are troubled we often don't know what type of help we need we just know we need help. Telling someone you know (family/friends) may be difficult because it is personal and private, and they may offer their opinion and advice.

Counselling is different, it provides a non-judgmental response, counselling enables you to work through painful feelings, to grow in self-understanding and confidence, explore and develop coping strategies by looking at your options.

I have helped many people who were struggling to deal with:

Depression/Low mood

Stress/Anxiety

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Relationship problems

Family problems

Death, Loss & Bereavement

Addictions – drugs, alcohol, gambling

Low self esteem

Work related issues

Parenting

Abuse – physical, emotional, sexual

Domestic violence

I am a registered member of BACP and I am eligible for accreditation, my ethical obligations and duty of care towards both clients and my profession are very important to me.

I do not charge a cancellation fee, but would appreciate an email/text to inform me prior to arranged appointments.

I work with teens, adults, couples & elders/veterans.

I also lecture in counselling at a FE college.

I have an Enhanced DBS Certificate (May 2015).

Please note: toilet facilities are in my main home, however there are several public toilets accessible within the town (church street, council offices, supermarkets).

Years of studying and practice has proved to me that it is never too late to change. Of course, it has to be the right time for you.

Your initial consultation session is without further obligation on your part. This gives you the opportunity to meet me and to ask any questions that you may have. We can then decide how best to work together.

Both daytime and evening appointments are available.

You can telephone, text or email me.

From this initial contact, we can decide if therapy could help you. Once we have had a discussion and I am positive I can help you, we can arrange appointments for future sessions.

Once the assessment is complete, I will discuss my understanding of your difficulties with you and agree a way forward.

It is important for you to be in control of your journey during therapy but with appropriate help, support and guidance you can develop the skills and techniques to use at any time without the need for on-going therapy.

Counselling Supervision

I have gained a Post Graduate Certificate and Diploma in Person Centred Supervision from a BACP Endorsed course. I am a registered member of BACP and eligible for accreditation status, which ensures i work within a Code of Ethics and Standards.

The way I work is from a humanistic perspective; to offer supervisee's a safe and confidential space to share their client work and feel supported in their practice, working with the individual need/level of experience of the supervisee in each session.

Good supervision should be ethical, authentic and supportive - active, enlightening and spontaneous: trusting the process and gaining more self-awareness through reflective practice.

An introductory meeting for 1 hour is advisable to ensure we can establish a healthy professional relationship and both feel comfortable to work with the other. Fees are £30 for this initial meeting.

Fees for Supervision are currently £40 per hour, and subject to annual review.

Group supervision (maximum 3) £20 each per 1.5 hours.
